A cross-sectional survey was conducted in two districts of Phu Cat (Binh Dinh province) and Mo Duc (Quang Ngai province), which employed clinical and paraclinical examinations to evaluate the sero-positivity and manifestations of gnathostomiasis infections. Laboratory examinations were performed on 1,148 blood specimens from people in Phu Cat and 1,120 blood specimens from people in Mo Duc, which resulted in 158 specimens positive to Gnathostoma spp. Clinical examinations indicated 55.7% of positive cases showed symptoms pertaining to cutaneous and subcutaneous form (44.3%), visceral form (21.6%), or mixed form (34.1%). Major clinical manifestations included skin irritation or urticaria (77.3%), headache (38.6%), abdominal pain (14.8%), migrating parasites (7.9%), cutaneous swellings (10.2%), myalgia (9.1%), blurred vision (10.2%), and fatigue (7.9%). Paraclinically, elevated eosinophilia and increased total IgE contents were found in 69.0% and 76.5% of the positive cases, respectively; while other bio-chemical indicators relating to the hepato-renal functions were within normal ranges
