Climate factors associated with human rabies suspected cases in Hanoi, Vietnam, 2003 - 2013

Author: Hoang Duc Hanh, Dang Dinh Huan, Le Thi Thanh Xuan and Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc
To analyze the correlation between the number of suspected cases of rabies and some climatic elements (temperature, humidity, and rainfall), the retrospective study was conducted in Hanoi using data recorded from 2003 to 2013. The results showed no correlation between average temperature, rainfall and the number of human rabies suspected cases received post-exposure treatment (p>0.05). Although there was an obvious linear showing that the positive increase of annual average humidity affected to rabies cases, this association was not statistically significant (r=0.35, p>0.05). The study has found no association between the quantities of people who exposure to rabies suspected animals accompanied post-exposure treatment (vaccine and/or rabies-anti serum) in Hanoi during the period of 2003-2013. For better analysis, the rabies data need to be recorded daily and monthly instead of only aggregated numbers for the whole year reported from local health centers to national level
