Application of loop-mediated isothermal amplification technique (LAMP) for rapid detection of Bacillus anthracis in Vietnam

Summary:
Anthrax is an acute infectious disease caused by Bacillus anthracis (B. anthracis). In Vietnam, despite its occurrence at low frequency, the disease still poses potential risk for both humans and animals because of high population density. A technique for the rapid and accurate detection of this pathogen is necessary for timely, effective treatment and disease prevention. In this study, we have applied loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technique to detect B. anthracis in Vietnam. The advantages of this technique include rapid, high sensitivity, simple process of implementation, and low cost. Primer sets were designed based on the sequence of gene encoding for protective antigen PA (pag) and gene encoding for capsule antigen (cap), which are the virulence factors of B. anthracis. Positive reaction is observed with the naked eye under fluorescence light or under UV light
